Seo Joo-oh, manager of Ulsan Plant Safety and Health Support, earned the grand prize (Ulsan Mayor's Award) in the National Fire Agency's inaugural Fire Safety Management Practical Skills Contest. This competition examines the formation of a firefighting plan, which may be considered the first step in firefighting safety management, as well as the capacity to create a firefighting plan based on objective and stringent criteria. This contest was launched for the first time this year to assess the practical abilities of fire safety managers.
Firefighting plan methodically prepares a yearly firefighting action plan to prevent fires in advance, as well as evacuation and early extinguishment through quick-fire propagation, shortage prevention through the Emergency Response Committee, and so on. As a manual to minimize employee injuries and property loss, it is compiled annually about risk factors and field-wide enhancement measures.
The manager who won an award in this contest, Seo Joo-oh, joined the company in 2020. In accordance with the revised Occupational Safety and Health Act, he is responsible for all safety-related obligations, such as preparing the board of directors’ report data that was first implemented in 2021 and responding to the Severe Disaster Punishment Act, which is effective in 2022, and establishing a fire safety monitoring system by replacing fire-fighting receivers.
Manager Seo Joo-oh stated that he would continue to enhance the level of fire safety management and increase his efforts to avoid fires in light of this award. Moreover, he asked for a great deal of attention and collaboration from the executives and employees, stating that such fire prevention could not be achieved via the efforts of fire safety managers alone.
This is due to the possibility that the outstanding achievements we have accomplished over the years might be lost in a moment of fire.
